Proposal due by December 7th, 2023

ClerVolc invites applications for its 2024 Visitor Program. The goal is to open our facilities to external collaborations on fundamental research, in order to enrich our mutual research capabilities.

Our consortium of 5 laboratories aims at developing fundamental research in volcano science (see https://clervolc.uca.fr/administration/the-consortium/). We tackle a broad range of themes including origin of volcanoes, mantle control of magma sources, role of volatile elements, magmatic and hydrothermal plumbing systems, volcanic plumes, ash clouds, lava flows, and structure and stability of edifices. With more than twelve years of activity, ClerVolc has acquired an impressive set of world-class instruments and has developed unique knowledge in relevant fields (geology, petrology, high-P-T experimentation, geochemistry, geophysics, numerical modelling, remote sensing, mathematics, meteorology, physics, computer science, data science).

Within the Visitor Program, ClerVolc will cover the costs for External Researchers to come to Université Clermont Auvergne and perform her/his research in collaboration with at least one of the ClerVolc partner laboratories. ClerVolc can possibly cover costs of transportation, accommodation in Clermont-Ferrand, and experimental or analytical costs. Typical duration of the visit can be 1 to 4 weeks or longer (to be justified).

Proposals should be written in English and sent as a single pdf file by email to the ClerVolc director (denis.andrault@uca.fr) by December 7th, 2023.

They should consist of: (1) an account of past research on the proposed topic (max 3 pages), (2) the research proposal (max 4 pages), with attached references, (3) a list of publications from the applicant and related to his/her project, (4) an evaluation of envisaged costs for the planned research, with detailed number of experiments, analyses, etc.

The selection process will take place in January 2024 and attributions will be announced soon after. The collaborative work can start in March 2023.
